Diet/Health
Our approach to physical health is quite simple. Daily exercise fortified with a healthy diet can do amazing things to the body. The daily exercise comes mostly from hiking, and our diet, though a little bland, is all about what the body needs not what we desire. Our diet is modeled after the book "Eat Drink And Be Healthy" written by Dr. Willet of the Harvard School Of Medicine. For over a year, we have been engaged in a body composition study to quantify the effects of our diet and exercise plan. The outcomes have been impressive to say the least.
- We found that on average girls were losing 4 pounds of overall weight. However, the body conversion rate of fat to muscle is where it becomes interesting. On average, they were losing 10 pounds of fat while gaining 6 pounds of muscle. A body that goes through this transformation definitely looks and feels different.
- We found that on average boys lose 6 pounds of overall weight. However, their conversion rate is different than the girls. The boys in the conversion process lose 5.5 pounds of fat and gain .5 pounds of muscle.
- We have found that most students who were under-weight upon admission actually gained both muscle and fat.
- We found that more over-weight students showed the greatest strides regarding fat loss and muscle gains.
- We found that most students reduced their heart rate by 7 beats per minute.
- We found a reduction in acne.
- We found a reduction in medication (students refusing to take medication because they didn't feel they needed it.)
- Most important, we found that the students themselves think they look and feel better.
This transformation process is happening in 50 to 60 days. When your child leaves RedCliff, we fully expect that you will find your child to be much healthier than he or she was when they arrived.
